After a really long, awful and strangely cathartic year off, I am back!
But seriously, the year I was away was full of fears, frustrations, and not a little bit of anger. Make that extreme f*cking rage, pardoning the language. Major surgeries, death, an academic suspension I had no idea was looming in my future, all which took place in that year.
That is not to say, however, that all was pain. I got a job, found a new perspective in real life teaching that didn’t involve the faculty at my university helping me out as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. There wasn’t a lot of structure in the teaching, or anything that students could directly relate to. I was teaching basic grammar and the functions of speech to students in technical classes who would only be there for 8 months. It was hard to get through to them.
Seriously, it was like that movie ‘Girl, Interrupted‘, with all the people with all their problems mingling into just a big mass of ‘Oh-My-God-How-Did-I-Get-Here?!’
But enough of that! I am back in wonderful, quirky, bothersome Colegio, and I have begun working on my thesis. It will be focused on Medievalism, video games and the Crusades. I hope that, by bouncing ideas off the blogging community, I can gain further insight into my chosen topic.
I don’t think it’s appropriate to keep using this same blog, which was geared towards totally different perspectives and the frame of mind in which I was, which almost seems like a lifetime ago. So, I made a new blog under this same username. If previous readers of my blog are still interested in my thoughts (and seriously, if any do, thanks! It’s been a really long while), go look for medievalthesisgirl .
